A LITTLE CLARITY
Frequently asked questions
Straightforward answers to common questions about nicotine pouches and product labels.
What are nicotine pouches?
Nicotine pouches are small oral pouches containing nicotine, a fibre-based filling and other ingredients. They do not contain tobacco leaf and do not involve burning or inhalation. Nicotine is addictive and these products are not risk-free.
Does tobacco-free mean nicotine-free?
No. Tobacco-free usually means that the pouch does not contain tobacco leaf. It can still contain nicotine derived from tobacco or made synthetically. Always read the nicotine content and ingredients on the specific package.
What is the difference between mg/pouch and mg/g?
mg/pouch is the amount of nicotine in one pouch. mg/g is the amount per gram of pouch contents. They are different units: a 0.5 g pouch labelled 10 mg/g contains 5 mg of nicotine. The amount listed is not the amount your body necessarily absorbs.
What do Mini, Slim and Regular mean?
These terms describe the pouch format, not its nicotine strength. Exact dimensions and fill weights vary between manufacturers. Check the format and nicotine amount separately on the current package.
How should nicotine pouches be stored?
Follow the storage instructions on the package. Keep pouches in their original, securely closed container, away from heat and direct sunlight, and out of the reach of children and pets. Storage requirements and shelf life can differ by product.
Who is Pouch Canada for?
Pouch Canada is a product information catalogue for adults of legal age who already use nicotine. It brings brand and label information together for reference. If you do not use nicotine, do not start.
Are nicotine pouches the same as snus?
No. Traditional snus contains tobacco leaf. Nicotine pouches generally use a fibre-based filling without tobacco leaf. The names are sometimes used interchangeably online, so check the product description and ingredients rather than relying on the name alone.
Are all pouches sugar-free or free from allergens?
Do not assume that they are. Ingredients differ by brand, flavour and market. Read the complete ingredient list and allergen information on the current package, or check with the manufacturer if you have a dietary restriction.
Do nicotine pouches expire?
Check the date and instructions printed on the container. A production date is not the same as a best-before or expiry date. If the meaning of a date is unclear, ask the manufacturer. Do not use products past their labelled expiry date.
Why might a package look different from the image?
Manufacturers may change packaging, and the same brand can have different versions for different markets. Images are a visual reference. Use the current package to confirm the product name, nicotine content, ingredients and warnings.
Does a listing mean a product is authorized in Canada?
No. A catalogue listing does not establish Health Canada authorization or lawful availability. Health Canada advises using only authorized nicotine pouches as directed. Check current Health Canada information and the specific product authorization.
Can nicotine pouches be used to quit smoking?
Only specific nicotine pouch products are authorized by Health Canada as smoking cessation aids. This does not apply to every brand or strength in this catalogue. Ask a pharmacist or healthcare professional about authorized options and follow the product directions.
Why do you only accept Interac e-Transfer?
Most card payment processors don't support nicotine products in Canada, so we can't offer credit card checkout. Interac e-Transfer is a secure, direct bank-to-bank transfer — your card details never touch our website. We have autodeposit enabled, so there's no security question to answer. Just send the exact order total to payments@pouchcanada.ca and put your order number in the memo.
Is paying by e-Transfer safe? What if I forget my order number?
Yes. You send the transfer from your own bank's app or website, so your banking credentials stay with your bank — we never see or ask for them. Include your order number (for example #1003) in the transfer memo so we can match it instantly. If you forget, don't worry: we can also match your payment by the exact amount within 48 hours, and you'll receive a confirmation email within minutes of us receiving it.
Product details can change. Always check the current package and manufacturer information.
